Patriots Tight End Reacts To Starting Quarterback Decision

The New England Patriots made a decision on their starting quarterback. They cut Cam Newton and put Mac Jones at center. The first-rounder will lead the team throughout the entire 2021 season. However, he doesn’t have a backup at the moment. The Patriots cut both Newton and Brian Hoyer. Jake Dolegala is out and so is Jarrett Stidham. The latter underwent a back surgery to fix his problem.

Jones became a valuable player for the Patriots overnight. Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith praised his work ethic and insane skill set. According to him, Jones earned his position.

“He’s earned it,” Smith said of the rookie. “A great guy off the field. We’re ready to ride with him.”

We couldn’t agree more. Jones was spectacular in the preseason. He saw action in every preseason game and Patriots coaches noticed huge potential. Jones didn’t see too many struggles on the field and he looked like a natural fit for the Patriots. That’s why Belichick chose him over Newton.

Patriots starting quarterback to face many challenges

Several sources, including former Patriots star Ninkovich, suggest that Jones even helped Newton learn the rulebook. The 2015 NFL MVP was great on the field but Jones helped him go with the floor. Interesting, right?

Former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe believes that the Patriots should have kept Newton at center. He insisted that Jones should spend a year at the sidelines and learn from the veteran. I guess things went the other way round this time.

Jones uses every opportunity to learn from his teammates and coaches. He soaks up everything he can to improve his game and help his team prepare for the new season.

The Patriots are expected to make a few more changes in the regular season and they will probably part ways with some of the current players. They will meet the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. Belichick will coach against one of the best quarterbacks in the league at the moment. The Patriots head coach really likes Tua Tagovailoa. How will his rookie handle the Dolphins star signal-caller?
