Rajon Rondo Reveals Surprising Details About Leadership in The Lakers Locker Room

The Los Angeles Lakers made a few inevitable changes in the offseason. They brought several familiar faces back to the team, and Rajon Rondo is one of them. Dwight Howard is back with the team and he really wants to get his second ring and a parade. Of course! Rondo is entering his second stint with the team and now he discusses the leadership in the Lakers locker room.

Truth is, the Lakers really need a strong leader heading to the new season. They need someone to lead young players. LA players respected Rondo which is one of the biggest reasons Rob Pelinka had to sign him to another deal. Rondo has excellent playoff experience and this makes things easier for everyone.

How will Rondo handle his leadership responsibilities?

“You can’t pick and choose when you want to be a leader,” he said. “You have to show up every day. Guys are watching, young and old, and you’re being critiqued or judged. Regardless of the outcome of how you feel that morning, you try to show up and be consistent. No one likes a guy that just talks about it. You do it with your work, you do it with your discipline and your consistency.”

Players will enter another challenging season. Each and every player on the Lakers roster will have to adjust to the pressure and some of them will have to sacrifice for the greater good. LA is coming off of a bad season and everyone needs to try extra hard to make things work. Veterans and young players will learn and change throughout the entire season.

“So for me, the most important part is understanding that I don’t know it all and I’m a willing listener, and I can learn from Malik Monk or Trevor Ariza,” Rondo said. “So having an open mindset and not being closed off and thinking you know it all is I think a big key to being a leader, and I think something I’ve grown from in my past.”

The Lakers will face stronger competition this season. Most NBA teams rearranged their rosters and some of the injured players will return after recovering from their injuries.
