Report: Patriots Host Quarterback, Five Other Free Agents For Workouts

The New England Patriots are playing against the New Orleans Saints, but this hasn’t stop the team for having free agents over for workouts. Typical, right?

This time the team is working out quarterback Anthony Gordon and six other free agents. The Washington State product went undrafted in 2020 and joined the Seattle Seahawks. He was part of the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason, but the team waived him about a month ago.

Patriots coaches watched wide receivers Jaylen Smith and Javon Wims do their job on the field. They also had defensive backs Kentrell Brice, Shakur Brown, and Grant Haley over. Will some of these players get a shot this time?

Patriots to get the best of the workouts

Wims was part of the Chicago Bears for three seasons. The wide receiver was able to catch 28 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Brice saw action with the Green Bay Packers for a couple of seasons and delivered one interception, six passes defended, and 98 tackles.

Smith was undrafted in 2019 and spent some time in Baltimore and Seattle. The New York Giants offered Haley a deal in 2019 and he joined the New Orleans Saints practice unit in 2020. These two have yet to play a regular season game.

Offensive lineman Jake Eldrenkamp stopped over for a free-agent visit. The Patriots offered him reserve/futures deal in 2019. However, he was released right before training camp.

The Patriots are pretty serious about their season. The team missed the playoffs in 2020, and Belichick will use every bit of talent to make the big game this season. He has an excellent signal-caller and getting him the right weapons is a must at this point. Mac Jones is the right quarterback to lead the team and we are more than excited to watch their next game.

The team will probably have other players over for workouts. NFL teams tend to make changes throughout the entire season. There’s still room for a few more moves. They have a backup for Jones, but Belichick is working out a quarterback. What does that mean? A third option?
