Report: Two Patriots Veterans Get Demoted After Week 1 Loss

The New England Patriots brought Nick Folk and Brian Hoyer to the field for their game against the Miami Dolphins. Well, they didn’t help the Patriots win this game, and both veterans got demoted.

Head coach Bill Belichick elevated both Hoyer and Folk for Sunday’s game, and now he is sending them back to the practice unit.

Both veterans were standard elevations for the season opener at Gillette Stadium. The NFL allows teams to elevate players when needed.

The Patriots have 52 men on the active roster at the moment. Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Malcolm Perry ended up on injured reserve after dealing with a foot issue this weekend.

Patriots veterans had to get demoted

Hoyer took the field as a backup for Mac Jones. The first-rounder had his debut with the Patriots and offered a decent performance. His veteran teammate didn’t take an offensive snap during the night. Let’s not forget that Hoyer is on his third stint with the Patriots.

Folk was able to convert on all three field goals and his lone extra point. The Patriots placed Quinn Nordin on the inactives list. The veteran kicker re-signed with the Patriots and the team hoped to use more of his Pro Bowl experience.

The Patriots can use players of their 16-man practice unit. They are playing against the New York Jets Sunday and this will be another important game for Belichick and his team. Of course, players have to stay healthy to avoid issues in the upcoming game. The Patriots injury report doesn’t look really scary at the moment but we will have to wait for the final report. We will know more about all the injuries on the Patriots roster on Friday.

Trent Brown left Sunday’s loss early in the first quarter. He spent the first half of the game on the sideline and didn’t return to the field in the second half. The Patriots aren’t two worried about his injury at the moment. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that he is day-to-day.
