Stephon Gilmore Opens Up About Patriots Trade, Contract Plans

Stephon Gilmore has opened up about his trade from the New England Patriots and what the future holds for him. The Patriots are going into week 5 of the NFL season with a record of 1-3. They are coming off of a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who are led by former Patriot great Tom Brady. Hopefully they are able to get back on the right track soon or it might be another long season.

One thing that we were not expecting to see, though, is the release of Stephon Gilmore. The team and Gilmore mutually parted ways this week, which came as a surprise to everyone. Gilmore talked about his release and what he was planning in the future.

“It’s no hard feelings,” Gilmore told reporters. “It’s business. It happens all the time. I had good years there, and I’m happy to be a Panther now.”

“It’s been a crazy 24 hours,” Gilmore said. “From sitting in the meeting room, to talking to Bill to getting traded to flying down here. So it’s been a crazy 24 hours, but it’s over now. I’m looking forward to the future.”

“That’s how it is,” Gilmore said. “Every year starts over. You’ve got to earn it every year, and that’s how I look at it. I turn a page each and every year and try to earn everything I want. That’s how I look at every situation.”

“I’m just trying to go out and get on the field,” Gilmore said. “Once I get on the field, everything will take care of itself. I believe in that. You’ve got to go out and make plays and show what you can do. … We haven’t really talked about (a potential extension) yet. That stuff will (work) itself out. I’ve just got to make sure I handle my business and try to do whatever I can to get back out there and make plays.”

“I’ll take it a day at a time,” Gilmore said. “Trust the training staff, work hard, go out and do what I do when the time is right.”

“It’s a great opportunity,” he said. “… I’m very excited about it.”
