The New England Patriots have a jersey number for Jamie Collins. Yes, he is officially a Patriot! First, he got the No.30 jersey, but something changed in the meantime and Collins wore No. 58 on the practice field today. Of course, we all know this was the number he had with the Patriots back in 2019.
Having Collins back on the field is a big deal for the Patriots. He is on his third stint with the team and has great connection with some of the players. Agent David Canter of GSE Worldwide confirmed the signing.
Collins will turn 32 later this month and he is one of the best players New England has ever had. The Detroit Lions actually did Bill Belichick a favor. They tried to trade Collins but ended up trading him last month. Belichick could easily use the 2015 Pro Bowler on the field in the next few games.
The veteran was in the second year of his three-year deal worth $30 million, including $18 million guaranteed. Collins agreed to restructure his deal and turned the $5 million of the $8.8 million base salary into a signing bonus. Add three voidable years to this.
During his time with the Patriots, Collins started 16 games with 135 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two interceptions. Collins also had 100 defensive snaps for the team before missing out the game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Collins is back with the team he played 66 games with. He had 56 starts and we are not even counting the postseason. In his previous stints, Collins had 328 tackles, 17.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries, eight interceptions, and a couple of touchdowns.
Head coach Bill Belichick has strong team at the moment but they lost three games so far. The latest loss came to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mac Jones is great on the football field and he definitely a bright star on the roster. New England plays against the Houston Texans and this is another important game in the regular season.
