Kevin Garnett Reveals Kobe Bryant Savage Reaction to Him Joining Celtics

Kevin Garnett respected Kobe Bryant so much that he even wanted to discuss his NBA moves with the Black Mamba. In 2017, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Garnett to the Boston Celtics. It was a big move and Garnett really wanted to talk it through. As you all remember, Garnett wanted to join Kobe’s Lakers. He really wanted to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

This conversation didn’t happen as Kobe was out of the country. The Lakers icon was on a Nike tour in China.

Garnett revealed details of the first convo he had with the Black Mamba following his contract with Boston.

“‘YO, MAN, YOU WAS TRYING TO GET IN CONTACT WITH ME?’ ‘Man, get the f— outta here.’ ‘NAH, NAH, I’M SERIOUS, MAN. I GOT THIS S— LATE, MAN. DAMN MAN.’ ‘It’s all good.’ ‘NAH, IT AIN’T GOOD, YOU IN THAT WRONG COLOR, MAN. WHAT THE F—, MAN. HOW YOU GONNA GO TO BOSTON OF ALL PLACES.’ ‘Man, nah, you gotta chill.’”

As you can see, Kobe wasn’t really a fan of this decision.

These two got to challenge each other in the NBA Finals in 2008 and 2010. They have played against one another on multiple occasions. Need numbers? Garnett’s team played against Kobe in 76 games. The Black Mamba won 45 games and Garnett got the best of 31 games. Kobe was one of the most competitive players in the NBA and played elite basketball.

Kobe died in a helicopter crash in 2020. He was traveling with his daughter Gianna and seven others. No one survived the crash and Kobe’s death shocked the entire world. Millions of fans mourned the death of the NBA legend. The world lost a legend and young NBA players lost a mentor. A lot of rising stars looked up to Kobe. They all wanted to be Kobe.

The Black Mamba spent his entire career with the Lakers and players will continue his legacy. They won a championship in his honor. It was a big championship win for the purple and gold. LeBron James and Anthony Davis made it happen.
