New England Patriots Sign Pair To Practice Squad

The New England Patriots have a few games left on their schedule and they won’t stop making any changes. This time the Patriots decided to sign a pair of player to their practice squad.

The Patriots confirmed that they have inked DB Thakarius (BoPete) Keyes and RB Devine Ozigbo to the practice unit. Unfortunately, they have released DL Niles Scott from the group. We have a few good reasons to believe that head coach Bill Belichick won’t stop here.

Patriots sign a pair of players to the practice squad for a reason

Keyes first entered the league as a seventh-rounder in the 2020 NFL Draft. He caught the attention of the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, the team didn’t find great use for the 24-year-old and they released him on Aug. 31, 2021. The 6-foot-1, 202-pounder was claimed off waivers by the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 1. The Colts released him on Nov. 13, and then signed him to the practice unit on Nov. 15. That’s not all. They released him on Nov. 22. Keyes saw action in 12 games with one start and recorded seven total tackles.

When it comes to Ozigbo, he was part of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 and 2021. The New Orleans Saints had him in 2021 but released him on Nov. 27. The 25-year-old first entered the league as a rookie free agent in 2019. New Orleans released him at the end of training camp and the 6-foot, 230 pounder was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars. The talented player spent part of the season on the Jaguars practice unit before the Saints added him to the active roster on Oct. 6.

New Orleans released him on Oct. 30, and the Jaguars got him for another stint. Ozigbo saw action in one game for the Jaguars and a couple of games for the Saints in 2021. He saw action in 21 games and recorded 11 rushing attempts for 25 yards and 13 receptions for 72 yards.

Scott’s departure doesn’t come as a surprise. The Patriots added him to the practice unit on Nov. 26, but he had to go.
