Patriots Announce Decision On Veteran Quarterback Jarrett Stidham

The New England Patriots have another quarterback on the roster, remember? Young Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham hasn’t seen any action in the regular season but he is still part of the Patriots.

Head coach Bill Belichick decided to trust his first-round pick and gave Mac Jones the key to the offense. It was a really good move and Jones is having great performance on the field. Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer steps in as a replacement when Patriots need him. What about Stidham?

Field Yates from ESPN reported that the Patriots have decided to activate signal-caller Jarrett Stidham off the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday. Stidham had his 21-day practice window open on Oct. 20.

Patriots to get the best of Jarrett Stidham, other players

The 2019 fourth-round pick began training camp on the Patriots’ PUP list. He had to undergo a surgery to fix his back. The Patriots have Jones, Hoyer, and Stidham on the roster. Don’t forget Garrett Gilbert on the practice unit.

The 25-year-old has seen action in eight NFL games and went 24-of-48 for 270 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. Stidham’s rookie contract goes through 2022.

New England had an opening on the 53-man roster after waiving interior offensive lineman James Ferentz on Monday. Ferentz is a veteran who cleared waivers and he will probably re-sign with the practice unit as reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss. The offensive lineman was used as a standard elevation in two games. The Patriots elevated him again as a COVID-19 replacement.

There’s more. The Patriots released Brian Poole from the practice unit Tuesday. The cornerback agreed to terms in Week 7. He has made stops with several teams in the NFL, including the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints. Poole joined the NFL in 2016.

Will the Patriots make more moves? They have Stidham back in the fold. Will his return change the gameplan? Will Jones lose his job as a starter?

Jones is doing just fine at the moment and Patriots players like him a lot. Hopefully, his consistency won’t change in the next few games.
