Patriot’s Defense Did Something Thursday No Team Has Done Since 2000

The New England Patriot’s defense has done something Thursday that no team has done since 2000. The Patriots are looking very impressive about 10 weeks into the season. Mac Jones and the offense have been much improved over the past month. To start the season, they looked slow and incapable of making the plays needed to win NFL games. Well, that has changed in a big way over the past few weeks. This has led to a 5 game winning streak for the Patriots behind the rookie QB.

But even more impressive arguably, has been the defense. They have actually been the high point of the team for most of the season. The defense has been impressive from the start. But they have outdone themselves, doing something that has not been done since 2000.

The Patriots’ defense picked off the Falcons a total of 4 times in their blowout over Atlanta. But it was not only against the starter Matt Ryan.

They also picked off Ryan, backup Josh Rosen and third-string QB Feleipe Franks. This is pretty impressive stuff from the Patriots.

Bill Belichick was also impressed, with some good words for the defense.

“They really do a good job, and to have more than one of them so that you can have somewhat of a rotation, keep them fresh, and attack the middle of the offensive line, whether it’s run or pass from the guard to the guard-center gap to the center in different ways, it can be very disruptive.”

“You have to block them on every play. It’s not like a corner or an outside linebacker; somebody you can run away from or work the other side on. Those guys in the middle of the formation, the defensive tackles, the middle linebackers, they’ve got to deal with them on every play. The depth and the ability to have more than one guy do that has been huge. They’ve all done a good job.”

The defense will need to continue to play at a high level if the team has their eyes on a playoff showing.
