Insider Floats Surprising Blockbuster Trade Proposal for Lakers

Anthony Davis will miss a few weeks after suffering an injury. Several Lakers players entered COVID protocols. What does that mean? Kevin O’Connor from The Ringer heard all the rumors about AD leaving the team through a trade. Will the front office agree to a blockbuster trade and move on from the Lakers superstar?

“You can’t be totally sure of almost anything in the NBA,” O’Connor explained. “The no. 1 rule is to expect the unexpected. But it would be shocking if the Lakers decided it was time to dump him when LeBron James wanted Davis, a fellow client of Klutch Sports. Would AD want out of L.A.? Would Klutch want AD out?”

O’Connor can see Davis join the Bulls and used the opportunity to mention Lonzo Ball’s potential return to LA. The Lakers traded Ball to get AD. Brandon Ingram and Josh Hard were in the same package.

“I just don’t see it,” O’Connor said. “In a few years? Sure, why not. Who knows what will happen as LeBron approaches age 40. AD has already said he’d ‘definitely consider’ playing for his hometown Bulls if the opportunity presented itself. Totally speculating here, but maybe in a future hypothetical sign-and-trade, AD-to-Chicago would be Lonzo Ball’s path back to Los Angeles.”

AD to end up in a blockbuster trade for a former Lakers player

Davis earned a contract extension in the offseason and his five-year deal was worth $189.9 million. He struggles to provide huge numbers this season, but O’Connor placed the blame on the front office. Are they really asking too much from the big man?

“But the Lakers also need to make life easier on Davis,” O’Connor detailed. “AD’s workload was massive before the injury. He has bulked up, and is undoubtedly heavier than in past seasons, likely in anticipation of playing more center. He chases perimeter players on defense and runs the floor back on offense. Takes a ton of shots, handles the ball, and tries to anchor a defense that lacks the perimeter stoppers it’s had in past years.”

AD will need plenty of time to rest and recover. He was visibly frustrated in his press conference. The injury wasn’t that bad, but he will be forced to stay out of the game for a few weeks.
