Lakers Reportedly Plan to Sign Isaiah Thomas to 10-Day Contract

The Los Angeles Lakers lost several players as a result of the ongoing pandemic. Talen Horton-Tucker, Malik Monk, and Dwight Howard will miss significant time on the field. These three tested positive for the virus and entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. Players will have to isolate themselves from the team for 10 days. No practice, no games. They won’t enter facilities at all. Of course, two negative tests separated by 10 days will bring them back to the floor. LA had to make a change and find a solution to the current situation. The Lakers consider adding Isaiah Thomas.

Here’s the catch. The team has to be granted a hardship exemption by the NBA. If this happens, the Lakers will definitely add Thomas to their roster. The NBA veteran will be a Laker for 10 days. The information was confirmed by Dave McMenamin.

Lakers will get Isaiah Thomas for a reason

This is a really interesting situation for the Lakers. Teams added Thomas to a trade deal in 2018 and the Lakers got enough cap space to get LeBron James.

Thomas’ career is up and down. He struggled to find a home in the league. This is something many veterans deal with. Thomas has made multiple stops in the NBA. LA was definitely on his list.

Getting Thomas may be of great help for the Lakers. He had his G league debut on Wednesday and basketball fans really liked his performance. Thomas scored 42 points on 16-of-30 shooting and also stacked eight assists, six rebounds, and to steals.

Many were worried about Frank Vogel’s future with the team as the Lakers lost too many games. Team owner Jeanie Buss doesn’t consider firing Vogel. Her team isn’t 100% healthy. If the Lakers continue losing games, Vogel will have to go. However, we wouldn’t really get into that one at this point.

LA will be without three great players and the front office had to think of an efficient solution. Maybe the team will pull out a few trade moves ahead of the trade deadline in February.
