Report: These Two Pats Execs Are Potential GM Candidates

A lot of things changed in the New England Patriots front office last offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick is still here, of course. Belichick and his legacy will be here forever. The Patriots lost Nick Caserio to the Houston Texans last winter. He accepted their offer and became their general manager. Guess what… The Patriots may lose other members of the front office. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano listed 10 “potential general manager candidates” who may get a new job in the upcoming offseason. Two members of the Patriots front office are listed as GM candidates.

Will Dave Ziegler and Eliot Wolf follow Caserio’s example?

Ziegler stepped in as a replacement for Caserio. He was making a lot of headlines back then and many fans thought he’d end up joining the Denver Broncos as their general manager. Ziegler even interviewed for the position. Things changed overnight, and Ziegler changed his mind. He is still part of the team that hired him a decade ago.

Wolf joined the Patriots last season. He was part of the Green Bay Packers for 14 seasons and spent two seasons on as assistant general manager for the Cleveland Browns.

Two Patriots GM candidates helped Belichick get top players in the offseason

The Patriots look really different this season. Tom Brady is gone. Stephen Gilmore is gone. N’Keal Harry is still here. Belichick got two great tight ends in Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry. Team owner Robert Kraft was loud and clear last offseason. He wanted Belichick to spend a lot of money and get the best players he can get through the draft and free agency. That’s exactly what Belichick did. He couldn’t have done it without Ziegler and Wolf though. Belichick is an incredible coaching mind but he really did a good job with the help of these two.

Ziegler and Wolf gave Mac Jones, Christian Barmore, and Rhamondre Stevenson a chance to shine on the field. That’s not all. The powerful duo helped the Patriots get Matthew Judon, Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, and many others… Jones and Bourne have an incredible chemistry and they have already connected for many touchdowns this regular season.
