Tom Brady Recalls Bill Belichick Orders Amid ‘Spygate’ Scandal

Head coach Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots had to deal with the Spygate scandal in 2007. It was a tough season for the Patriots just because they had to go through it all.

Spygate put a black dot on the Patriots dynasty. It all started with the illegal filming of defensive signals from New York Jets coaches from an unauthorized spot in September. The league disciplined the team and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said it was a violation of league rules. Belichick got the maximum fine and this is the largest fine a coach has ever received. Half a million? Belichick lost the money. The organization was fined $250,000 and lost the first-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. The league launched a probe into the allegations and Patriots had to turn over any and all material related to the videotaping.

Bill Belichick didn’t let Spygate destroy his success

Spygate was really big back then and Belichick had strict rules for his players.

“When it came out, Belichick called us in the next day and he said, ‘Look, none of you players had anything to do with it,’” Brady said on Episode 4 of ESPN+’s “Man in the Arena,” as transcribed by The Boston Globe. “‘Just shut your mouth, focus on what your job is. None of you guys know anything about it. None of you guys have any information about it. I’ll deal with it how I need to deal with it, and you guys focus on your job.’”

Typical Bill Belichick response. We are not even surprised. Belichick is a man of a few words and he doesn’t say much about outside noise. Yes, Belichick likes winning. Rumors and allegations have nothing on him.

Spygate is history now. Belichick has a team packed with talent and a 9-4 record. Seven straight wins. Brady is no longer a Patriot. He parted ways with the team following the 2020 NFL season and won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
