2 Former Patriots Assistants Could Return to Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots have a good coaching system, but they didn’t make the Super Bowl this year. Some of the assistants are set to interview for jobs somewhere else. Josh McDaniels hasn’t received any offers yet. This leads us to two former Patriots assistants who may join head coach Bill Belichick in the near future.

Matthew Fairburn from The Athletic believes that Belichick may soon work with two of his former assistants really soon.

“This isn’t the most experienced staff Belichick has ever had, and a few of his old assistants are back on the market after Joe Judge and Brian Flores were fired from their respective head-coaching gigs,” Fairburn wrote. “There might be an opportunity for Belichick to strengthen his staff this offseason.”

Patriots assistants may have better success under Bill Belichick

Judge was part of the Patriots from 2012-19. He didn’t have much luck with the New York Giants as their head coach, but he may want to try his luck somewhere else.

Flores had great success with the Miami Dolphins but he was fired. The Patriots are well aware of his potential which makes us believe that he will be of great help for the team in 2022.

“If Belichick determines coaching played a role in those mistakes, how much different will the staff look in 2022?,” Fairburn asked. “The special teams unit led by Cam Achord was one of the worst during Belichick’s time in New England. Jerod Mayo is a strong candidate for multiple head-coaching jobs. Running backs coach Ivan Fears is nearing retirement. It’s possible the Patriots will have coaches depart on their own, but it will also be interesting to see if Belichick feels the need to freshen up the staff with some new hires after the way the team finished the season.”

New England has to make a move. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones won’t go anywhere, meaning the Patriots will make changes in other areas of the game. Assistants, defense, offense… There are so many options right now. Let’s see how will Belichick solve the problem, because yes, there really is a problem.
