Lakers’ Russell Westbrook Opens Up on Benching vs. Pacers

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel thought it would be good if he removes Russell Westbrook from the most recent game, but benching Broddie in the game vs Indiana Pacers sparkled a huge controversy. Fans started talking about Westbrook’s future role with the team and someone even suggested that he should find his home somewhere else. Vogel’s job with the Lakers was also in question.

The Lakers traded three good players to the Washington Wizards just because they thought Westbrook was the best fit for their team. Why would they bench him now? According to several sources, Vogel had the permission to coach Westbrook the way he sees it fit.

Russell Westbrook had a different reaction to his benching in the game vs Pacers

Westbrook says he wasn’t really mad about the benching. The veteran even insists he was “surprised.”

“Surprised, yes,” said Westbrook. “I was disappointed I didn’t go back in, but I’m more disappointed that we lost the damn game.”

Vogel had a reason to keep him out of the game. He wanted to use players “who can actually win the game.” Westbrook wasn’t one of them.

Truth is, Westbrook shouldn’t be bothered with one particular loss. He should focus on his future with the team. He can easily lose his spot. The Lakers will have a hard time finding a trade partner because Westbrook has a big deal. There’s still room for a move though.

“I want to be able to be on the floor to help my teammates and be able to help our team win in games like that — but that was a decision that was made,” said Broddie.

Fans would love to see more of his greatness.

Now we have Kyle Goon of OC Register saying that Westbrook wasn’t that “kind” after ending up on the bench.

“The 33-year-old point guard nearly left the floor after he was subbed out for Malik Monk, but teammate DeAndre Jordan shepherded him back. Westbrook watched the next few minutes unfold, apparently jawing from the bench with his jersey untucked, although exactly what was said (and at whom) is still unclear.”
