Report: AFC East Rival Free-Agent WR Called Option For Patriots

The New England Patriots will have to make some changes to upgrade the roster. They missed the chance to make the Super Bowl this season. In other words, head coach Bill Belichick will rebuild his roster. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones is his building block. The Patriots need a strong receiving option. According to several reports, an AFC East WR should be a good fit for the Patriots.

Zack Cox of NESN says that Buffalo Bills slot receiver Isaiah McKenzie is a good option for the Patriots. This may be a good starting point for the Patriots. Will Belichick even try to make a move for McKenzie?

“McKenzie hasn’t been much of an offensive threat in his NFL career — unless he’s playing the Patriots. The speedy slot receiver gave New England fits in each of the final two Pats-Bills matchups this season, including an 11-catch, 125-yard, one-touchdown breakout in Week 16. McKenzie also has extensive kick and punt return experience, though Bills coach Sean McDermott didn’t trust him to handle the latter in unfavorable weather conditions.”

AFC East WR is a good option for the Patriots

Belichick tends to get players from his rivals. He may repeat history and get another one. The Patriots head coach got Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry in the offseason. Robby Anderson from the Carolina Panthers said that Belichick once tried to get him. It happened in 2020.

The good news? We have already heard Belichick praise McKenzie. This adds the perfect sparkle to all those rumors.

“Explosive player, home-run guy in the return game and offensively,” Belichick said of the wide receiver. “Versatile player, catch the ball, use him in the backfield so we’ll have to do a great job on him.”

McKenzie’s tweet made people talk about his departure from Buffalo. His deal is not that big and the Patriots can afford getting him.

McKenzie would be a natural fit for the Patriots. He has the right skillset and an affordable deal. Let’s see how this works for the team. It’s a long offseason after all. Who is the first player to join the Patriots? Who is the first player to join the Patriots?
