Report: Patriots Duo No Longer Favorites For Raiders Coach, GM Jobs

Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler have been linked to the Las Vegas Raiders for quite some time. Well, Vic Tafur from The Athletic reported that the Patriots duo won’t get the Raiders jobs as their head coach and general manager. Several sources revealed that McDaniels and Ziegler were on a good way to get the job in Las Vegas. Things took a different direction and they are no longer considered favorites for both positions.

Tafur reported that McDaniels even tried to put together his staff. Yes, he was really serious about the new position. Everything changed overnight. Wonder why? There are several theories at the moment. Was it related to the salary? Maybe McDaniels didn’t like some aspects of the power structure in Las Vegas. We do know that he will probably stay with the Patriots. The same goes to Ziegler.

“McDaniels apparently had been calling coaches around the league about putting together a staff, but it appears something happened in the last 24 hours,” Tafur wrote Wednesday afternoon. “League sources don’t know if the issue was about compensation or the power structure in Las Vegas or both, but it seems Ziegler and McDaniels are not the leaders in the clubhouse anymore.”

The Patriots duo had great chance to get the Raiders jobs

Ziegler had his interview with the Raiders last Friday. The Raiders haven’t requested an interview with the Patriots offensive coordinator. Why was McDaniels so sure about his job in Las Vegas?

One thing stands for sure. McDaniels and Ziegler know each other really well. They have been working together for a decade. We wouldn’t be surprised to see these two leave the Patriots at the same time. McDaniels wants the best for his former teammate, and the same goes to Ziegler.

The Raiders have to make a decision. Maybe they have trouble adjusting their system to someone who works under head coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots have a special way of doing things. Belichick wouldn’t give up on his offensive coordinator that easily. Let’s see what happens in the offseason. New England may still lose a couple of assistants.
