Insider Pinpoints ‘Potential Cap Casualty’ As Patriots Build Roster

The New England Patriots didn’t finish the 2021 NFL season with a title. Head coach Bill Belichick will definitely change the approach and lead his team to a different direction in 2022. There are several scenarios with the Patriots at the moment. Players will enter free agency and some of them won’t return to New England in the offseason. Players are in and out and Belichick will probably keep the best for his team. Jeff Howe of The Athletic discussed one cap casualty for the Patriots and he may be right about this. Is Henry Anderson the odd one out?

Belichick may not add the “cap casualty” to his 2022 roster

The Patriots may decide to cut the defensive lineman this offseason.

“There are much bigger names than the 2021 free-agent bust who logged four games and made six tackles, but cutting Anderson would be an easy way to save about $2.7 million against the cap. If the Patriots want to get more creative, they could trade right guard Shaq Mason to create $7 million in cap space. They could also part with linebacker Kyle Van Noy and save $4.9 million, but it’s unlikely they’d find a net gain when considering the $2.45 million in dead money. Defensive lineman Lawrence Guy has a cuttable contract, saving $3.75 million in cap space while assuming $750,000 in dead money, but that wouldn’t be a wise move.”

The Patriots brought Anderson to New England last offseason. He didn’t play a big role with the team in 2021 and this will ease his way out. Enter his age and you will see things clearly. Anderson will turn 31 in August. He won’t last forever, you know. The talented players has a cap hit of $3.7 million for this year.

Anderson is a third-round pick from the 2015 NFL season. He was an Indianapolis Colts player and New York Jets player for three seasons. The Patriots got him last offseason but he may not stay around this time. Interestingly, Anderson is not the only player to leave the team. N’Keal Harry’s situation is not that bright, remember?
