Patriots Urged to ‘Double Dip’ in NFL Draft Deepest Position

The New England Patriots will enter the 2022 NFL Draft with a few major needs. Head coach Bill Belichick found his franchise quarterback, but he has to boost his receiving unit. The same goes to his linebackers. NFL analysts would agree that the Patriots have to draft linebackers to adjust the deepest position.

Chad Hill from Pats’ Pulpit believes that the Patriots have to “double dip” at linebacker. Is this a good advice? Bill Belichick always has a plan and he is probably working on his first move. The Patriots head coach is trying his chances on the open market, too. New England signed a few free agents last season and most of them did a good job. Hunter Henry was a great “discovery” for the team.

Belichick had great expectations from his linebackers in 2021, but some of the players struggled to make an impact. Ja’Whuan Bentley was of great help for the team, but he had some issues, too. Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy, Dont’a Hightower, and the rest of the guys didn’t have great performance on the floor.

Patriots to draft players for their deepest position

Who is the best option for the Patriots? Brandon Smith is one of the players Belichick should focus on in the draft. He is not the best prospect in the group, but he has great frame and speed. His athleticism could really help the team.

“Smith is a tricky projection. His coverage skills and combination of speed and length are tough to find in a young linebacker, but he will need to find consistency in the run game and as a tackler to warrant being on the field,” Bleacher Report wrote on the prospect. “Smith’s early career will feature extreme highs and lows while he works toward being a reliable starter.”

Chad Muma became a linebacker at Wyoming. His style is impressive and New England needs a speedy linebacker. In 2021, Muma had 142 tackles and 3 interceptions. Muma could be the best linebacker option for the Patriots. Will Belichick make a move?
