PFF Predicts Patriots Will Sign This Defensive Back In Free Agency

The New England Patriots may lose a few players in free agency. This may be a big blow for the team, but Pro Football Focus believes that the Patriots may sign one defensive back again.

J.C. Jackson is entering free agency. He is too valuable for the Patriots and they may make a move to keep him around. According to PFF, the Patriots will give him a four-year deal. That’s it. The Patriots won’t spend more money on other players.

Patriots to sign a defensive back for the win

PFF discussed the situation of 50 free agents on the market. Charvarius Ward may sign a three-year deal with the Patriots, earning $34.5 million in the process.

“Ward has been the Chiefs’ primary boundary corner for the last three years, and he’s played at an average leverage, taking a small step forward this year,” Arjun Menon wrote. “His 71.2 PFF grade ranked 21st out of 116 cornerbacks, and he finished with a 69.4 coverage grade as well.

“On top of re-signing J.C. Jackson, the Patriots need additional corners to run Belichick’s man coverage system. Ward has done his best work playing man coverage rather than zone, making this a good fit for both parties.”

The 2021 Pro Bowler sure deserves a good deal. He had a huge impact on the game and Belichick would love to have someone like him in the fold next season.

Keeping Jackson could help the Patriots retain nice depth at cornerback. Ward is a good option for New England, as well.

PFF made predictions on the Patriots’ pass catchers as well. JuJu Smith-Schuster could join the team in free agency. There are so many options for the Patriots at this point and Belichick will try to get the best players for his team.

New England missed the big game in 2021 and some of the players will have to go. This would create a lot of room for new names. The organization may keep some of the veterans to lead their young force throughout the regular season. It’s a long season for everyone, including both coaches and players.
