Breaking: Browns, Patriots Reportedly Agree To Trade

The New England Patriots will be super busy this offseason. The team has already made some changes and Kyle Van Noy was the first player to leave the team. Of course, the Patriots are expected to lose other players in free agency. Jamie Collins, Dont’a Hightower, and a few others can easily sign with another team. JC Jackson is joining the Los Angeles Chargers. Well, Chase Winovich is the next to go because the Patriots have already contacted the Cleveland Browns for a trade.

What are they getting? A linebacker. So, this trade gives the Patriots another linebacker. Why did they trade Wino? Is Mack Wilson a better option for the 2022 roster?

Tom Pelissero was the first to confirm the trade.

Patriots call Browns to trade Wino for Wilson

Losing Wino won’t be a big blow for the Patriots at this point. NFL analysts had great expectations from him, but he didn’t see much action in 2021. The talented player did much better in 2020 because he delivered 49 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception. What happened in 2021? He did 11 tackles.

Winovich joined the Patriots in the Tom Brady era. He had a good connection with the quarterback. However, he didn’t deliver great stats last season and the Patriots had to make a move. Trading him for Wilson may be a good plan because the Browns linebacker played in 14 games in 2021 and recorded 42 total tackles.

Wilson was brilliant in 2019. He had 82 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one interception. His game is sharp and the Patriots will be expecting similar results in 2022. Hopefully, he will be healthy throughout the entire season.

The Patriots will make a few more moves to give Mac Jones the right weapons. The rookie quarterback is entering a challenging season. He didn’t have much help in 2021, but Josh McDaniels was around. The former Patriots offensive coordinator helped him develop his skills. Jones will work with a new OC (probably) and a bunch of new teammates. A real challenge, huh?
