Fullback Jakob Johnson Reportedly Leaving Patriots To Sign With Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders snatched another member of the New England Patriots family. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels left the team to coach the Raiders. It was a great opportunity and McDaniels will try to get the best of it. Dave Ziegler followed the same pattern and ended up with the Raiders. Guess what… They got a Patriots fullback, too. Fullback Jakob Johnson is leaving the New England Patriots to play with the Raiders.

The fullback spent his entire career with the Patriots but he is taking his talents somewhere else. According to several sources, Johnson has agreed to a deal with the Raiders. He will be part of the same offense he worked with when McDaniels coached Patriots. He is also signing with Ziegler who became the Raiders general manager. Ziegler was the Patriots’ director of player personnel.

Fullback Johnson is leaving Patriots after great stint

Johnson, 27, was born and raised in Germany. He had a short stint with the German pro football team but took his talents overseas and joined Bill Belichick’s team. Johnson became one of the better players to come out of the league’s International Player Pathway Program. He saw action in 37 games with 20 starts in the last three NFL seasons.

The Raiders offered him a one-year deal and Adam Schefter was the first to report the news. This move didn’t come as a surprise. Johnson is joining a familiar name in Las Vegas.

Johnson is not the only Patriots player to join the Raiders. Brandon Bolden made the same decision.

This gives Bill Belichick enough room to play with this offseason. The Patriots have to replace players who left the team to sign somewhere else. When it comes to Johnson, Belichick may opt for Dalton Keene. The third-rounder missed last season due to an injury and has played in just six games.

Belichick may also go for another target in free agency and he may even get his replacement in the 2022 NFL Draft. Connor Heyward from Michigan State seems like a decent option. The Patriots have plenty of time to create the perfect roster.
