Insider Reveals Disappointing Truth About Key Free Agent Lakers Future

The Los Angeles Lakers have a few topics to work on and the front office is expected to make a move. The franchise will have to play smart this offseason. Some players will probably leave the team, leaving an open space for new names. Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin discussed free agent Malik Monk and his Lakers future.

Many would agree that Monk was one of the best players LA got in free agency. He joined the team on a minimum contract and his performance is quite surprising. Monk is averaging 12.7 points per game while shooting 39% from the three-point line.

This performance has attracted the attention of many teams in the NBA. We have a few good reasons to believe that Monk won’t agree to sign another minimum deal.

“You look back and it’s insane he was a minimum player,” Wojnarowski said on The Woj Pod. “But you’ve seen him increase his value. They won’t be able to afford to keep him.”

“Most likely not,” McMenamin noted.

Talented free agent wants to play with the Lakers in the future

Monk didn’t have many suitors last offseason. He joined the Lakers because they were his only option at the point. Probably. The situation changed and Monk can easily go somewhere else.

“The difference is last summer, three teams called,” McMenamin detailed. “The Lakers, the Mavericks, the Knicks. This summer, you would imagine not only based on how much money will be out there on the market, but just the way he was able to perform this year, there will probably be more offers.”

Monk likes his team and this may make things easier for the purple and gold.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look at my future with anything,” Monk said recently. “I love it here. I’d love to play here again, man. But you never know what’s gonna happen with the NBA. You never know what happens. It’s a business, at the end of the day. But I’d definitely love to play here.

“But I don’t know. It’s hard to call the future.”

Let’s see what happens in the offseason. Monk is a free man and he will probably do the best for his future.
