Josh McDaniels Opens Up On Poaching Bill Belichick’s Patriots Assistants

Josh McDaniels won’t work with Bill Belichick in 2022, but he will definitely work with some of his assistants. The former New England Patriots offensive coordinator interviewed with the Las Vegas Raiders for the head coaching vacancy. It was a good deal and McDaniels got the best of it. Now he can finally coach his own team. A dream come true, right?

Head coach Belichick will have to find another person to lead his offense. McDaniels did a wonderful job in the past few years. His success with Mac Jones was the cherry on top. Belichick found his quarterback of the future and McDaniels helped him unleash his potential. There’s a lot of speculation about the next Patriots OC. The team has yet to make an official decision. There were some reports about Jones’ new throwing coach.

Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick have nothing but respect for each other

McDaniels couldn’t provide any response to this question either. He is focused on his first season as the Raiders head coach. When it comes to his assistants, McDaniels will join forces with a few former Patriots assistants. Mick Lombardi is the Raiders OC, Carmen Bricillo is working with offensive linemen, and Bo Hardegreen will be quarterbacks coach.

This was more than enough for people to start talking about McDaniels’ plans to pack his coaching staff with former Patriots assistants.

“I have great respect for Bill and that process. And spoke to him directly multiple times about any interest that I had in people that were there,” McDaniels told the media at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. “And I’ll keep those conversations private, but never wanna do the wrong things relative to those things, obviously.

“Feel very fortunate that I had an opportunity to add a few people that I’ve worked with before, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. But, yeah, trying to do the right things relative to communicating with him or any other coach, for that matter, if you’re interested in somebody that works in their organization.”

Let’s see what happens next in Las Vegas. Is McDaniels a threat right now?
