NFL Writer Believes Best Free Agency Fit For Patriots Already Is In-House

The New England Patriots will look a lot different in 2022. Josh McDaniels is not around and the team made some changes to the coaching staff. That’s not all. Several Patriots players are entering free agency this offseason and some of them will start the regular season somewhere else. Head coach Bill Belichick has a few open options at the moment. Will he do an effort to keep these guys in New England? Will he go after other free agents? According to Marc Sessler, the best free agency addition for the Patriots is already on their roster.

Yes, it’s JC Jackson. The talented cornerback is entering free agency but his situation got stuck in the middle of… Foxboro?

Jackson really is the best free agency addition for the Patriots

The Patriots approached him in the regular season, mentioning things like a new deal or an extension. Well, Belichick and Jackson have yet to discuss his potential extension. The veteran was a bit disappointed during one of his interviews, saying that the Patriots probably don’t need him. Sessler is definitely betting on Jackson.

“Talks between Jackson and Foxborough’s money men have gone quiet, with the talented corner recently lamenting: ‘I guess they feel like they don’t need me. I guess I can’t be that important to them. I know I am, but they’re not showing me,’ ” Sessler wrote.

“The franchise tag remains an option, but I’m lobbying for New England to re-sign one of the AFC’s top man-to-man menaces. Jackson is rarely beat deep, finished second in the league with eight picks and already looms as an ideal scheme fit. Bill Belichick might blanch at the big contract, but a nice four-year deal would keep one of the game’s top cover men around until the coach turns 74.”

Many analysts would agree that Jackson is the best free agent on the current Patriots roster. He is one of the best cornerback options in the NFL at the moment. Why would Belichick let him go? Jackson will find a home in no time. He would be much better in New England though.
