Patriots Have Re-Signed Veteran Running Back

The New England Patriots brought Matthew Slater back and he is not the only team captain to join the 2022 roster. According to latest reports, the Patriots re-signed running back James White on Tuesday. It looks like he won’t leave the team in the offseason.

The Patriots gave him a two-year deal worth $5 million which gives him $2.5 million each season.

White, 30, returns to the field after suffering a serious hip injury last season. This injury affected his performance and he finished the 2021 NFL season with 12 catches for 94 yards and 10 carries for 38 yards and one score. He is the third captain to get a new deal with the team. Devin McCourty will stay with the team for some more time.

The Patriots have Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson, and J.J. Taylor in the backfield. Brandon Bolden is a free agent and he has yet to make a move.

White earned his spot on the Patriots roster and the team re-signed him in the last two offseasons. He had a really good performance and the Patriots decided to bring him back.

In 2021, White played on a fully guaranteed one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

His current deal includes $500,000 guaranteed as reported by the latest report.

The Patriots were able to keep the running back on the roster

New England faced serious competition in the offseason because other teams wanted White too. The running back told Jeremy Fowler that the Las Vegas Raiders tried to get him in free agency. Well, the Patriots wanted him back, and he didn’t even try to go somewhere else.

Harris is back, too and he will have to split play time with White. Both veterans have to stay healthy to contribute to the team in the backfield. Stevenson did a good job in 2021 and he is expected to have another brilliant season.

The Patriots will probably try to add more depth to their positions in the offseason. They have great options on the roster but they still needs strong weapons. Head coach Bill Belichick will probably go after talented linebackers and cornerbacks. He also needs receivers.
