Patriots Missed Out on Ideal Free Agent Fit, Says Former GM

The New England Patriots entered the offseason with a few big holes on their roster. Head coach Bill Belichick had a few great player over for tryouts. Some of these players would have been great options for the 2022 squad. The free agent market is packed with great talents and Belichick has a lot of options to work with. According to Randy Mueller, the Patriots missed out on an incredible free agent.

Mueller would love to see Myles Jack put on a Patriots uniform. Well, the talented player inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. He signed a two-year deal worth $16 million. Jack spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and decided to take his talents somewhere else.

“The guy for me would’ve been Myles Jack,” Mueller said. “He can run, he can hit, he flies all over the field. That’s the kind of skill set I think is missing from a place like New England. That guy can make up for not being able to scheme every down and can go cover a tight end or even a back on third down.”

Patriots missed the chance to get the free agent but could snatch other great players

Jack had great success in the last few seasons. He was relatively healthy and helped his team win a lot of games. Jack played his best football in 2018, recording 107 tackles, an interception, a defensive touchdown, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and 2.5 sacks.

The Steelers worked really hard to get Jack. Mike Tomlin will try to get the best of his talent. Pittsburgh had great defense and the addition of Jack makes everything better. They are a lethal team in their division.

The Patriots have plenty of time to get the players they need to fill up the roster with talent. Belichick lost a few players in free agency. His 2022 roster will be a lot different than the roster he had in 2021. Does he mind this? Absolutely not! He has great players on his current squad.
