Report: JC Jackson Will Not Get Franchise Tag Before Deadline

JC Jackson is the best free agent on the New England Patriots roster at the moment, but he won’t get the franchise tag. What does that mean?

Ian Rapoport from NFL Media reported that the Patriots won’t place the franchise tag on the veteran cornerback. Head coach Bill Belichick has so many options at the moment and placing the franchise tag on Jackson is not one of them. This doesn’t change the fact that the Patriots have great interest in Jackson. They just won’t use the franchise tag on the player. That’s all. Maybe they will give him a better deal in the next few seasons.

“J.C. Jackson, one of the top corners available on the free agent market, is expected to be a free agent,” Rapoport said during an NFL Network appearance. “And, of course, the reason that is news, is because the franchise tag is available and there’s some wondering, were the Patriots going to tag J.C. Jackson, keep him around for another year, potentially try to work out something long-term.

“I’m told, the tag is not expected to be applied to J.C. Jackson.”

JC Jackson is not getting the Patriots franchise tag

Jackson is entering free agency and many NFL teams will do an effort to get him. I mean, they’d all want to get a 26-year-old star. Will the Patriots try to keep Jackson on their roster?

NFL analysts have great opinion for Jackson and his future in the NFL. He had a good season with the team and this sure added to his value. If the Patriots don’t like him, Jackson won’t have trouble finding a new home.

Jackson revealed that the Patriots haven’t contacted him for a contract extension. They mentioned something during the regular season, but they didn’t make an offer. Jackson interpreted this as a lack of interest. It was more like a complaint. Jackson is well aware of his potential and he can’t understand why the Patriots didn’t give him a deal. Let’s see what happens this offseason. A lot of things can change overnight.
