Report: Patriots Are Meeting With Veteran Running Back

Leonard Fournette is a free agent again and the New England Patriots had a meeting with the running back.

Fournette, 27, is entering free agency for the third straight season. The Jacksonville Jaguars cut him in August in 2020. He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a ring with the team. The Buccaneers offered him a one-year deal again in 2021. He did a really good job and stacked 1,266 yards from scrimmage and 10 scores. Unfortunately, the veteran sustained a hamstring injury and affected his performance. He did join his team in the second postseason game and carried the ball 13 times for 51 yards and two scores and also offered 9 receptions for 56 yards in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Well, guess what… The Patriots seem to be interested in his style and they are giving him a chance. He got their attention for a really good reason.

Patriots meeting with lethal running back

The former Bucs running back is still young and he can still offer a few great seasons. There were several predictions for his next move and some fans still believe that he may return to Tampa Bay. Jason Katz from Pro Football Network has a few good reasons to say that Fournette will return to the Buccaneers. He had great time with the team and his connection with Tom Brady is also impressive. The Buccaneers have yet to sign running backs in free agency and some have interpreted this as a bid to get Fournette back. Here’s another fact. Fournette may try to get a big deal in free agency. The Buccaneers may not give him a lot of money. Maybe he is willing to get the money he deserves this time.

The Patriots won’t spend a lot of money in the offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick signed four RBs and one of the will probably leave the team.

Belichick could find great use for Fournette. His great performance has led the Buccaneers to great win and he will be an excellent fit for the 2022 roster.
