Report: Patriots Organize For Future With First-Round Trade

The New England Patriots entered the offseason with a few big holes on their roster. They have to replace some of the players who left the team in free agency. Head coach Bill Belichick has a few great options at the moment. We have the third mock draft and it reveals a different aspect. According to this mock draft, the Patriots will agree to a future trade for one of their picks.

So, Belichick will trade back in the first round and work on a future-focused prospect.

Patriots have a few options

This trade involves Nos. 21 and 200 overall to the Tennessee Titans for the No.26 and 90 picks.

Will the Patriots consider trading back for offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann? Belichick has other priorities at the moment, but he may easily go for an offensive tackle.

Raimann is a really talented player. He is a converted tight end who tested in the 79th percentile or more in every drill. He hit the 91st mark in the short shuttle and the 98th in broad jump.

The player doesn’t have much experience and Pro Football Focus said he was the “most polished” 2022 pick at this position. According to Lance Zierlein, Raimann is “a much better technician than he should be at this age.” There’s more. Zierlein says he is similar to Sebastian Vollmer.

Let’s move on to Round 2. The Patriots are getting LB Quay Walker with the No.54 overall. NFL analysts wouldn’t really say that he will find a home on Day 1. However, Walker is an excellent fit for the Patriots linebacker unit. Walker is bigger than Nakobe Dean and offers great versatility. If the Patriots get him, he will join Ja’Whaun Bentley and Mack Wilson.

Round 3 has the 85th overall pick and WR Wan’Dale Robinson. He doesn’t have a huge frame, but Julian Edelman was not too big either. Robinson has shown great potential and his stats are great. In his lone season at Kentucky, the WR had 104 passes for 1,334 yards and seven touchdowns.

Patriots to get another player through the future trade

Round 3 has the 90th overall in OL Cole Strange. He is an excellent college starter who played at left guard. He was great at the Senior Bowl and was a dominant force at the combine. The player delivered superb speed (90th percentile in the 40-yard dash), quickness (90th in short shuttle, 89th in three-cone), explosiveness (99th in broad jump, 83rd in 10-yard split) and strength (86th in bench press) at 6-5, 307.

CB Zyon McCollum goes at No.127 overall. He has great athleticism and was also a college captain. Belichick could use another special teamer. McCollum had great performance at the Senior Bowl.

CB Jalyn Armour-Davis is a must-have Alabama product. He is not experienced player but his potential is huge. The player has the right size and the Patriots could use him as an outside corner. Armour-Davis ran a 4.39-second 40.

Finally, WR Bo Melton comes at No.210 overall. Melton is the best pass-catcher in three disappointing Rutgers offenses. He is also a two-year captain who saw action in the Senior Bowl.

His running game is good and he had 4.34-second 40 and 6.98-second three-cone. According to experts, Melton may be great contributor on special teams.
