Tom Brady Reportedly Wanted To Replace Bill Belichick In 2017

Bill Belichick is the best head coach the NFL has ever seen. This also makes him the most hated coach in the league. Well, people don’t like winners and Belichick’s team has won a lot of games. Here’s a fun fact. Do you know that Tom Brady wanted to replace Belichick with Bill O’Brien?

You read it right. The seven-time Super Bowl champion had the best replacement for Belichick if he left the team.

Tom Brady planned to replace Belichick with O’Brien

Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated talked about this on NBC Sports Boston’s “Boston Sports Tonight.” He explained that Brady could force his new team to get rid of Bruce Arians. The greatest quarterback of all time is back in the game again. He announced his retirement and may have plans for Arians. Of course, Breer explained that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t consider making a change at head coach but mentioned that Brady would try to get O’Brien on the team if the Buccaneers fire Arians.

“I’ve told you guys this before: That’s who was going to be the head coach (of the Patriots),” Breer said of O’Brien. “That’s who Tom Brady helped to line up as the head coach if he had won the power struggle with Bill Belichick in 2017.

“If Belichick is out of here, after everything that happened in ’17, I’m telling you: Bill O’Brien would be the head coach (in New England).”

O’Brien has a long career in the football world. He was part of the Patriots from 2007 to 2011 and left for Penn State. He became head coach for the Houston Texans in 2017 and spent a lot of time with the team.

When it comes to Belichick, he sits on the throne in the NFL. He had to rebuild his roster following Brady’s departure. Mac Jones has the keys to the offense now and Belichick seems to be happy with his performance. Jones will have a great future in the NFL and experts have great expectations for his role as a Patriots signal caller.
