Draft Expert Says Wide Receiver is a ‘Home-Run Pick’ for Patriots

The New England Patriots have to add depth to their receiving unit. Head coach Bill Belichick needs players at multiple positions. The Patriots have traded for DeVante Parker, but Belichick may be eyeing another player. An NFL Draft Expert discussed the Patriots and their potential wide receiver options in the upcoming period.

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network bets on Jameson Williams. According to him, Williams is the “home-run pick” for New England. Getting him makes perfect sense for the Patriots.

“Obviously Jameson Williams would be a home-run pick,” Jeremiah stated. “That would be somebody they would have great info on with Nick’s (Saban) connection there with Bill (Belichick). That to me would be a fun one.”

Williams transferred to Alabama from Ohio State. In 2021, the receiver had 70 receptions for 1,572 yards, and 15 touchdowns. The talented player led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards, TDs, and average yards per reception.

Lance Zierlein agrees with the draft expert on the potential Patriots target

Lance Zierlein says Williams could help the Patriots in the offseason, adding that his speed could change the Patriots game.

“(Williams is a) linear route-runner with electric long speed to impact a game as a home-run hitter or decoy drawing defenders away from other elements of the offense,” Zierlein said. “Williams ruins man coverage but faces some limitations. He has issues getting off press cleanly and might require some scheming to help get off the mark cleanly against certain corners. Catch toughness can be inconsistent when contested or in heavily trafficked areas. He has all the juice to find consistent separation on vertical, over and post/corner routes and could see monstrous production if paired with a high-end talent at quarterback.”

Things won’t go that easy for the player. Williams sustained a torn ACL in the national title game. Many believe that he may not start the regular season.

“How does a player with this kind of talent catch only 15 balls at Ohio State? That’s the question our coaches are going to ask when they get involved,” a pro personnel director for an AFC team told Zierlein.
