Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Completely Destroys Lakers Drama “Winning Time”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar watched the Lakers drama series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.” What did he say about the series? The Lakers drama series encapsulates, “the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers… both on and off the court.”

Well, Abdul-Jabbar says it’s boring. NBA fans wouldn’t agree with him on this one. A lot of people have provided positive reviews for the series. Abdul-Jabbar’s legacy was discussed in the series. Lakers legends played a big role back in the days. Abdul-Jabbar doesn’t like the way the HBO series painted the whole situation in the NBA. Why would he say it’s boring?

“Each character is reduced to a single bold trait as if the writers were afraid anything more complex would tax the viewers’ comprehension. Jerry Buss is Egomaniac Entrepreneur, Jerry West is Crazed Coach, Magic Johnson is Sexual Simpleton, I’m Pompous Prick. They are caricatures, not characters,” he wrote.

Abdul-Jabbar knows the Lakers really well, dislikes Winning Time

The game was super serious back in the days. The same applies to today’s game as well. However, Abdul-Jabbar says the series will affect the legacies of many NBA legends. He doesn’t like the way filmmakers avoided facts, adding that they replaced facts with “flimsy cardboard fictions.”

The 1980s Lakers were special and made a strong story. Well, Abdul-Jabbar has something to say about the whole picture painted in the drama.

“The filmmakers deliberately avoided facts as if they were an STD…they replaced solid facts with flimsy cardboard fictions that don’t go deeper and offer no revealing insights,” he wrote.

Abdul-Jabbar was there and he knows pretty much everything about the “old” NBA squad. He knows the way players handled pressure. The NBA icon may have a few reasons to criticize the drama series. NBA fans like it though.

The Lakers icon has made some really strong topics lately. He criticized LeBron James for his joke on COVID. He also disapproved LeBron’s stance on COVID. The four-time NBA champion didn’t say a word about COVID vaccines and didn’t use his platform to motivate people to receive their dose.
