Lakers Urged to Make 3 Vital Moves to Win Another Championship with LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering an important offseason. The Lakers front office was urged to make some vital moves and repair the damage. Players struggled to win more games in 2021-22 and didn’t even make the play-in tournament. NBA analysts have discussed the situation in LA and suggested a few major moves for the team.

Frank Vogel was the first to go. The Lakers fired him despite the fact that he led the team to a championship. Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN reported that the search for a new head coach will be “expansive and lengthy”.

Zach Buckley has three major suggestions for the Lakers. If you ask Buckley to do the job, he would get a new head coach, cut Russell Westbrook, and sign a few two-way players.

There are several options for the Lakers. Vogel gave them a ring but they will have to expand their search now.

“Will they lean toward offense instead of defense this time? How much will experience matter? Do they want a motivator or a tactician? Will they spend what it takes to chase the biggest names on the market? There are myriad questions to answer, but there should be,” Buckley wrote. “The Lakers, arguably, won’t make a more important decision all summer than this one.”

Lakers urged to make vital moves in the offseason

Westbrook has to leave the team this offseason. He may be an excellent player, but he is not a good fit for the Lakers. The team got him through a massive trade, hoping to get the third star behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It didn’t work. Westbrook’s turnovers sealed his destiny.

“The Lakers can’t go another season with Russell Westbrook on the roster—or, perhaps more importantly, the payroll,” Buckley wrote. “His game never fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis or in relief of them. The best result for all parties is an amicable divorce, whether that’s through a trade, a buyout or Westbrook being waived and stretched.

“A trade is the preferred outcome for the Purple and Gold, but they can’t give up too much (one future first-rounder is probably doable, but two should be a deal-breaker) and need to walk away with some type of contributor.”

The Lakers have to rearrange their roster. Building the next squad around LeBron makes perfect sense. Pelinka has to fill a few holes on the roster. He has to get shooters and other versatile players.

“L.A. must use this summer to increase its shooting, length and defensive versatility on the perimeter,” Buckley wrote. “That’s tricky with the budget constraints, but the Lakers have the taxpayer mid-level exception and a few trade chips to throw around. This may be their last crack at constructing a contender around LeBron James—he is 37 years old and unsigned beyond next season—so they must make their additions count.”
