Lakers Advised to Sign NBA Champion Sharpshooter in Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a really important offseason. They finished the season with a losing record and didn’t even make the play-in tournament. LeBron James and his teammates sustained too many injuries throughout the entire season. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka has to make a move and he was advised to sign a sharpshooter.

This may be quite a challenge for the purple and gold. LA has three players under contract and Pelinka could easily opt for a trade deal.

Russell Westbrook may be the first player to go. The Lakers waived Trevor Ariza in favor of a younger player. Kendrick Nunn has player options. Austin Reaves, Stanley Johnson, Wenyen Gabriel, and Mason Jones have team options.

Westbrook had good numbers as an individual player, but he was of no help for the team. The nine-time All-Star player didn’t make an impact at all. Moreover, he made too many mistakes.

Lakers to sign a sharpshooter for a reason

Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report bets on Denver Nuggets guard Bryn Forbes.

“Some might want the Los Angeles Lakers to aim higher, but they shot for the moon with the Russell Westbrook trade last offseason, and we all saw how that turned out.

“This is a back-to-basics suggestion, a return to what we know works well for a team that employs LeBron James. Shooting is paramount for L.A., and Bryn Forbes is arguably the best gunner on the market.

“The 28-year-old won’t contribute defensively, but he’s a 41.3 percent shooter from long distance for his career, and he’s more than a standstill threat. Forbes’ 2.5 points per game off screens with the Denver Nuggets ranked sixth in the league this season.”

The Lakers need a sharpshooter. They need someone who can shoot from the three-point line. Getting Malik Monk was a good idea but he may soon leave the team in free agency. LeBron has great connection with Monk but the talented player may not stay around for too long. Let’s see what happens in the next few months. It’s a long offseason for the Lakers.
