One Reasonable Explanation For Patriots Draft Pick Trade With Texans

The New England Patriots will enter the 2022 NFL Draft with one pick in the fifth round. They had a couple of picks in this round of the upcoming draft. However, the team decided to trade one of these picks. CLNS reporter Evan Lazar has an explanation for the Patriots and their trade with the Houston Texans.

Belichick and former Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio worked out a deal. New England sent the No. 170 overall pick to Houston in order to get Nos. 183 and 245.

It was more than obvious that the Patriots would trade up and down the draft to get the players they need. Belichick needs players at pretty much every position. He needs receivers, linebackers, and yes, cornerbacks. The Patriots cornerback unit is really thin and Belichick will have to get a few players in the draft or through a trade.

Acceptable explanation of the Patriots trade with the Houston Texans

The Patriots have traded up and down the draft on so many occasions. Belichick has his way of doing things and this trade will definitely benefit his team. Lazar offered his explanation of the trade between the Patriots and Houston.

“The Patriots have only used six fifth-round picks in the last ten drafts, and three were specialists,” he tweeted on Monday. “The hit rate of NFL draft picks levels off after the fourth round. In other words, there is very little difference between a fifth-round pick and a sixth or seventh. Might as well have more darts.”

Belichick will probably make a few more moves in the next few days. NFL analysts reminded everyone that the Patriots average 3.8 trades per draft in the last couple of decades. We have a few good reasons to believe that this draft trade won’t be the only one. The Patriots have nine picks and we can only make guesses about Belichick’s next move. It’s a long offseason and the team will try to fix the damage. Let’s hope for the best outcome. The Patriots have to do better in 2022.
