Patriots Passed on All-Pro Linebacker Option

The New England Patriots plan to make a few big moves in the offseason. They have to get a few players to fill up the voids on their roster. Head coach Bill Belichick has a few targets. He plans to give Mac Jones some weapons ahead of the 2022 NFL season. The Patriots head coach went after a few players but he passed on linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The All-Pro linebacker could really help the Patriots. He left the Seattle Seahawks and many thought he’d go straight to New England. Wagner is a six-time All-Pro and an eight-time Pro Bowler. In 2021, he stacked career-high 170 tackles. This makes him a real option for New England.

Well, the Patriots didn’t even reach out. The All-Pro linebacker went on “The Rich Eisen Show” to talk about his career.

“I didn’t talk to Bill,” Wagner told Eisen, “I have so much respect for Bill, though. I think it’s mutual.”

Patriots passed on the linebacker for obvious reasons

The Patriots have to add depth to their linebacker unit. They have talented players, but Belichick could really use a few more. Wagner would have been a good fit for the team. The team has already released Kyle Van Noy. Dont’a Hightower is checking his options on the open market. Losing him would be a big blow for the Patriots. He had a key player for the team in 2021 and he may be on his way out of New England.

Age may be an issue. Wagner is 31. He has a few good seasons left and NFL teams could find great use for his talent.

Belichick may opt for a college star. He needs a stronger option for his roster. Nakobe Dean is a good target and he has been linked with the team in the last couple of months. Let’s see if the Patriots manage to get him. It’s an important offseason for the team. Belichick has to fix the damage this time. His team lost the wild-card game last season. Robert Kraft is not happy with the current situation at all.
