Patriots Scout Jarrett Stidham Potential Replacement

The New England Patriots have Mac Jones as their leading quarterback. He is definitely the future quarterback for the team. Brian Hoyer signed a deal with the team and he remained on the team as a mentor for Jones. What about the other talented QB on the Patriots roster? Will the Patriots even consider getting rid of Jarrett Stidham and find his replacement?

The Patriots will enter the 2022 NFL Draft with a few great needs on the roster. They need players at several positions, but guess what… Patriots scouting director Eliot Wolf already traveled to scout quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Patriots have their eye on a Jarrett Stidham replacement

Stidham missed a lot of time due to an injury. He is young and talented and Bill Belichick gave him a chance in the last couple of seasons. He showed flashes of greatness, but Belichick didn’t give him a starting role. The 25-year-old has 48 career passes in two seasons. He recorded 270 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions in his short career.

What can the Patriots get for Stidham?

Is Zappe the right replacement for him? In 2021, Zappe stacked 5,987 yards, 62 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Bernd Buchmasser discussed the Patriots’ interest for Zappe.

“Realistically, only Zappe, Sterns and [DeAngelo] Malone are candidates to hear their names called in the draft,” Buchmasser said. “The Patriots might have a spot on the roster for all three of them, with the latter two in particular players to watch: Sterns’ abilities as a slot receiver and Malone’s potential on the edge make them potential candidates to be brought in by the team.”

Wolf talked about the Patriots’ interest in quarterbacks a few years ago. This is a really important position for the team.

“Looking now from afar, the best quarterback in the game is a sixth-round draft choice [Tom Brady], and that should alert everybody,” Wolf said in 2016. “Then you look at what the Cowboys have accomplished with a fourth-round draft choice [Dak Prescott]. I mean, it tells you what you should do. Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.”

Jones is doing a decent job and a great number of analysts believe that he can be the right player to replace TB12.
