Shaquille O’Neal Says How Much He’d Ask to Coach the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers fired Frank Vogel after the end of the disappointing season. The team lost a lot of games and several factors led to the terrible outcome. Most NBA analysts claimed that Rob Pelinka would get rid of Vogel, and guess what, they were all right about this. Shaquille O’Neal discussed the departure of the coach and the current situation within the Lakers organization.

Pelinka is looking for a new head coach at the moment. The team has been linked to several names, including Doc Rivers. Throw O’Neal to the mix. The NBA icon talked about this during an episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq.” Is there really a chance for him to take the job?

“If the Lakers offered me $25 million a year for four years, I’d coach the Lakers,” O’Neal said. “I’ll need a four-year contract. I’d coach them right now.”

O’Neal to coach Lakers?

NBA fans took notice of the comments O’Neal made. He is a star and he has plenty of experience. Well, not everyone is convinced that O’Neal would be a good coach.

“Considering Shaq knows on average I’d guess around ~4 players on each team, I’d pay to see him run through a scouting report,” one fan said.

“Mark Jackson offers much better value for a team on a budget like the Lakers,” another fan joked.

The Lakers are searching for their new head coach. Vogel led the Lakers to a win inside the Orlando bubble. This wasn’t enough. The last two seasons were really disappointing. The Lakers didn’t even make the play-in tournament this season. Fans were really disappointed. They couldn’t even watch Russell Westbrook on the floor. He came to LA through a blockbuster trade, but this move was a bad move for the team.

O’Neal will definitely sparkle a big debate with his comments. Let’s see what happens this summer. One thing stands for sure. The Lakers won’t look the same next season.
