Stephon Gilmore Announces He’s Signing With New Team

Stephon Gilmore will enter the 2022 NFL season with a new team. No, he is not coming to New England. Matthew Judon was super excited about Malcolm Butler’s new deal with the New England Patriots. He really wanted Gilmore to re-sign with the team. Well, Gilmore had other plans. We don’t even know if the Patriots wanted him on their roster again.

NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that Gilmore confirmed his new deal with the Colts. The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year visited the Colts and they liked his potential. Gilmore can make a lot of great things on the football field and he will be the No.1 corner for the Colts. Both Gilmore and the Colts wanted this deal.

Stephon Gilmore signed a great new deal

Gilmore’s situation with the Patriots was really complex. He wasn’t the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL and wanted a better deal.  The Patriots didn’t want to waste their money and didn’t offer Gilmore a bigger extension. He is a veteran after all… The Patriots traded the veteran early in the 2021 NFL season. Would NFL teams pay a lot of money for someone like Gilmore?

I guess the Colts saw something special in him. They offered Gilmore a two-year deal worth $23 million. Oh yes, he has $14 million guaranteed.

The Colts will turn Gilmore into their next starting corner. They really expect to see the former DPOY play his best football. He sustained a serious injury in 2020 and even underwent a surgery. He is healthy now and there’s no obstacle for him now.

Gilmore is incredible cornerback and will sure give his best to give the Colts a reason to keep him around. He made five Pro Bowls and is a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection.

Hopefully, Gilmore will avoid serious injuries in 2022. Sustaining a serious injury will probably bring his NFL career to an end. Let’s see how Gilmore fits in the new team. He is talented and the Colts will find great use for his real potential.
