Bill Belichick Expecting ‘Big’ Role For This Patriots Defender In 2022

The New England Patriots will enter the 2022 NFL season with a different roster. Head coach Bill Belichick will work with a different coaching staff and his roster will include a lot of new names. The team considered making some moves and Bill Belichick has great plans for the role of one of his defenders.

Patriots outside linebackers coach Steve Belichick said Josh Uche will be “a big part” of the Patriots’ defense in 2022. He made these comments earlier this month. What does his father say about this?

Belichick made great comments about Uche. He has great expectations from the veteran.

“I agree: I think he is a big piece of our defense,” the legendary head coach said. “We’ll see exactly what it turns out to be.”

Bill Belichick discussed potential role for his players

The Patriots selected Uche in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He had great potential, but didn’t really make a big impact. The veteran sustained serious injury and missed the first half of his rookie campaign. Yes, he had a promising end of the season and showed great performance in the 2021 training camp.

In 2021, Uche played 21.9% of the Patriots’ defensive snaps, ranking 17th among Patriots defenders. He missed five games due to injuries and also didn’t get much playing time.

Dont’a Hightower left the Patriots in free agency and maybe Uche will have to fill up the void.

“I think it’s a stretch to compare most everybody to Hightower,” Belichick said. “We’re talking about one of the best linebackers that’s ever played here.”

When it comes to Hightower, we don’t know if he plans to return to New England.

“We’ll just talk about the players who are on the team right now,” Belichick said.

Steve has nothing but words of praise for Uche and other players on the roster.

“We’ll see how the competition plays out, but Josh is another guy who’s doing everything right,” Belichick said. “He’s putting a lot of hard work in, and he’s setting himself up as well as he could to help us out on the field once we get to camp. It’s all just a building process, and he’s done everything right so far. I’ve got no complaints.”
