Colin Kaepernick Chance at NFL Return Likely Depends on Multiple Ex-Patriots

Colin Kaepernick still hopes for a NFL return and former Patriots executives may play a big role in the process. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was suspended from the NFL in 2016 for kneeling during the national anthem. He has yet to play a NFL game. The talented quarterback had a workout, but he didn’t get a chance to play again.

Kaepernick has seen action in 69 games in his NFL career. He delivered 12,271 yards for 72 passing touchdowns while rushing for 2,300 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Adam Schefter from ESPN reported that Kaepernick worked out with the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday. The quarterback visited the Seattle Seahawks in 2017, but didn’t play.

Colin Kaepernick to join former Patriots upon NFL return

If the former Niners quarterback is to return to the league, former Patriots execs will have a big say in the decision-making process. Former Patriots director of player personnel Dave Ziegler is the new Raiders general manager. Former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is their head coach. Carmen Bricillo, Bo Hardegree, and Mick Lombardi are also part of the team. So, yes, former Patriots will play a big role in Kaepernick’s future.

Lombardi knows Kaepernick know each other really well. They were together in San Francisco and Lombardi was an assistant coach for the team back then.

It’s interesting to note that Kaepernick may soon join forces with a former Patriots quarterback. Jarrett Stidham was traded to the Raiders not so long ago.

Kaepernick is more than ready to get another chance. He’d really love to play on NFL fields. Playing with any team would be a big deal for him. He really wants to show the world that he is still a capable player. Will the Raiders take this into consideration?

“If you’re talking about the playing side, come in, let me compete,” he said via ESPN. “You can evaluate me from there. The NFL’s supposed to be a meritocracy. Come in, let me compete. If I’m not good enough, get rid of me. But let me come in and show you.”
