Metta Sandiford-Artest Breaks Down What the Lakers Should Expect From Darvin Ham

The Los Angeles Lakers fired Frank Vogel after a disappointing season and Darvin Ham stepped in as his replacement. LeBron James was fired up about Ham’s hiring and Metta Sandiford-Artest is also a fan. In his interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sandiford-Artest said that Ham really cares about the interest of his players. Let’s just say this would be of great help for the purple and gold.

“He was working hard, working all the players out, worked me out,” Sandiford-Artest said regarding the impact Ham made as a Lakers assistant many years ago. “Worked out everybody. He was involved heavy and was very direct; very, very direct, which I really loved.

“… He definitely understands modern basketball. He also is capable of communicating in a way where you can receive it the right way. He’s definitely a presence, but he also has a communication about him that is, I’m not going to say soft, but you understand that he has your best interest at heart.”

Lakers players like Darvin Ham

Ham was the favorite to get the job. The Lakers interviewed a few candidates and Ham was definitely a top option. He has some experience in the NBA as he was an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks for four years. That’s not all. Ham also played in the NBA for eight years and he knows how things roll.

Here’s a fun fact. This will be Ham’s first head coaching experience. He has experience as an assistant, but this new position will definitely give him a huge challenge. One of the best aspects of this hiring is the fact that Ham spent some time with the Lakers. He was their assistant coach from 2011 to 2013.

LeBron is a fan of the new head coach and he will definitely establish an excellent relationship with him. It will be a big challenge for both LeBron and Ham. Let’s see how things work for the Lakers this next season. Ham will have a busy offseason and he has to learn more about his team. Coaching LeBron may be a big bite to swallow, huh?
