Patriots Assistant Coaches Won’t Discuss Roles For 2022 Season

The New England Patriots will look a lot different in 2022. They have made some big changes to the roster and the same goes to the coaching staff. Josh McDaniels won’t be around this time as he joined the Las Vegas Raiders as their new head coach. Running backs coach Ivan Fears called it career. The Patriots said they won’t have an offensive coordinator. We don’t know much about the changes and Patriots assistant coaches didn’t reveal much about their role in 2022. I guess Bill Belichick taught them really well.

“Honestly, I don’t really know, and honestly, I don’t really care,” Steve Belichick, New England’s outside linebackers coach and primary defensive play-caller in 2021, said when asked if his duties will change. “I just like coaching football. I’m happy to be on defense, but whatever I’ve got to do, I’m happy to do. I’m happy to be around football.”

Patriots coaches remain quiet about their role in 2022

Some say Belichick’s son will step in as the next defensive coordinator for the Patriots. Will he take this responsibility?

“Fair question that I don’t have the answer to,” Steve said. “If I am, great. If I’m not, that’s good, too.”

Belichick and his assistants will keep their mouth shut throughout the entire offseason. Inside linebackers Jerod Mayo didn’t say anything either. He is happy with his time on the field and he is focused on the perfect gameplan.

“Honestly, I just like to say I’m a football coach,” he said. “Not trying to be ambiguous here. I just like to say I’m a football coach. I coach football players. I’m a teacher. I’m a teacher, and I’m trying to get guys better each and every day.”

There’s more. Belichick and his assistants don’t even mention titles. “We don’t have titles around here,” Mayo said.

Cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino, safeties coach Brian Belichick, and special teams coordinator Cam Achord didn’t make any comments on the coaching situation in New England.

Joe Judge will coach quarterbacks and Matt Patricia will work with offensive linemen.

“We want to make sure we can all coach all the players and that nobody is out there with a lack of knowledge in the offense,” Judge said.

Belichick has an excellent group of professionals by his side. The 2022 coaching staff will definitely do wonders on the field.
