Patriots Cut Dual-Threat Undrafted Free Agent

Head coach Bill Belichick will soon bring his roster to perfection. The New England Patriots made some surprising moves in the 2022 NFL Draft and also signed a few undrafted free agents. NFL analysts made a lot of predictions about the team, but Belichick made a decision in the meantime and the Patriots cut an undrafted free agent.

The Patriots got Eriq King right after the draft and analysts praised his versatility. The incredible player really appreciated the opportunity. Playing with the Patriots is a big deal and King was willing to accept the challenge.

“I talked to (Patriots director of player personnel) Matt Groh, and he was excited,” King told NESN’s Zack Cox. “… He told me I’ll do a little bit of everything—receiver, quarterback, running back—whatever I can do to stick.

“…I’m definitely motivated, and you have a chip on your shoulder, whether you get drafted or not. I’ve played quarterback my whole life, but I think I can be a pretty good receiver, as well.”

Patriots cut free agent to create room for other players

Well, King’s time with the Patriots was brought to an end. Belichick has great plans for his season and King wasn’t a good fit for the team. He has to make all the necessary moves to sign his draft picks. The Patriots made some moves and they will make some more. Cole Strange and Tyquan Thornton have yet to sign their deals. The same goes to Jack Jones, Pierre Strong Jr., and Bailey Zappe.

Miguel Benzan reported that the Patriots can get two of the three fourth-rounders from the 2022 draft.

“They will need to create cap space in order to be able to sign the other 3 picks,” Benzan added.

Belichick doesn’t have too much cap space at the moment. He has to cut some players and rebuild other contracts to make everything work for the team.

This offseason surprised Patriots fans in so many ways. Let’s see what happens in OTAs. King won’t be the last player to leave the team. NFL teams play their first game with 53 men on the active roster.
