Patriots OTAs Opener Fuels To Bill Belichick-Offensive Playcaller Fire

The New England Patriots had their OTAs opener on Monday and let’s just say this session sparkled a huge debate. New England went through a lot of changes in the offseason. Josh McDaniels left the team, leaving the Patriots with a hole on the coaching staff. The Patriots said they won’t have an offensive or defensive coordinator.

Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t say too much about his plans regarding the coaching staff. Will he call offensive plays in 2022? There were rumors suggesting that Joe Judge will replace McDaniels. Others bet on Matt Patricia. Of course, Belichick can make these two compete for the role.

The Patriots trusted Mac Jones in 2021 and they will have him at center once again. The Alabama quarterback will take the starting position this season. There’s one major obstacle though. McDaniels helped Jones develop his skill set and now he is gone. The second-year quarterback will have to work with another coach. This makes us believe that Belichick will step in as an offensive coach for the team. He trusts Jones and appreciates his potential. Belichick won’t retire until he builds a solid quarterback unit. Maybe he will coach Jones to push him into the right direction.

Patriots OTAs opener says a lot about Belichick’s role in 2022

NFL reporters asked a lot of questions on the topic during Monday’s press conference.

“I’ve called them and I haven’t called them,” the 70-year-old said. “And other people have called them and they haven’t called them. So, we’ll see.”

Typical Belichick response. That’s just Bill Belichick being himself. He likes giving these responses every time the media asks questions about his future plans. Belichick is a man of a few words and he likes to keep things to himself.

We couldn’t ignore the fact that Belichick spent about 40 minutes of Monday’s practice watching QB/WR drills. Oh, yes, he is serious about his role on the offense. The Patriots head coach won’t reveal too much before the start of the regular season. Surprised much? No, right? Let’s see what happens in training camp.
