Patriots’ QB Mac Jones a ‘Dark Horse’ NFL MVP Candidate

The New England Patriots had a few reasons to trust their rookie quarterback. Mac Jones did a good job in his first season with the Patriots and he even has a chance to win a MVP award really soon. In 2021, Jones threw 22 touchdowns for 3,801 yards. He did better than any other rookie in the league.

The Alabama quarterback was the runner-up in the race for Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. He almost got the award. If you ask Peter Schrager, he will say that Jones can snatch a MPV award in 2022.

“No one has any confidence, it seems like, in the Patriots,” Schrager stated. “Who’s calling the plays? Who’s calling the plays? How about this one — Who cares? We’ve got Mac at the quarterback spot. No one’s going to pick Mac Jones. A huge long shot. Patriots bringing back a lot of players from a team that went to the playoffs last year. And if they finish first over Buffalo, a huge ask, you better believe there’s going to be some hype around a second-year quarterback who was the fifth one taken in the first round (in 2021). I’m going Mac Jones, dark horse MVP candidate. Not a popular pick. But that’s the whole point: Dark horse.”

Mac Jones is definitely getting his MVP award

Kendrick Bourne said that Jones is in the “best shape of his life”. He watched the quarterback play and develop and yes, he really likes the results.

“He’s in the best shape of his life,” Bourne said. “I think he’s been here all offseason with Moses, so he looks really good. His stomach is gone, and he looks really good.”

Jones led the Patriots to a seven-game winning streak in 2021 and we believe he will do even better next season.

The Patriots have to overcome a few major obstacles in the offseason. Jones will be leading the ways for his team and he has to build strong connection with his receivers. Josh McDaniels left the team this offseason and Jones will be working with a new OC.  Will Bill Belichick take the role and help Jones develop?
