Report: Lakers Request Permission To Interview Notable Candidate

The Los Angeles Lakers have to find a replacement for head coach Frank Vogel after firing right after the final game of the season. The Lakers didn’t even make the play-in tournament. Players struggled to make an impact in the regular season and Vogel was the first to go. The Lakers have been linked with several players and they have now made a request to interview a huge candidate.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the Lakers have added one Milwaukee Bucks assistant to their list of candidates. They had Darvin Ham as an option. Now they have their eyes set on Charles Lee. According to Charania, the Laker shave been granted permission to interview the Bucks assistant coach.

“The Lakers have requested permission to interview Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee for their head coaching job.”

The Lakers interview a good candidate

Lee played at Bucknell from 2002 to 2006. He was the 2005-2006 Patriot League player of the year. He measures at 6’4’’ and helped the Buffaloes beat the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2005 NCAA tournament.

The Lakers are not wasting their time, but they are not in a hurry either. They need a head coach, but the offseason is pretty long and the front office will try to make the best decision. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka is taking his time to make a move. Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson won’t really play a big role in the hiring of the new coach. Yes, they are here to watch the situation, but Pelinka is leading the search.

LA has also interviewed Ham, Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin, Blazers head coach Terry Stotts, and Mark Jackson.

Who is the best head coach option for the Lakers? Jackson has been mentioned as a big name. LeBron James is a fan and so are other players. Vogel helped the Lakers win a title inside the bubble, but the last two seasons were bad. Let’s see if Lee gets the job. Maybe Jackson will have the honor to coach LeBron and other Lakers players. It’s a long offseason after all.
