Watch: Patriots QB Bailey Zappe Tear Up While Receiving Draft Call From Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots made a few unexpected moves in the 2022 NFL Draft. Head coach Bill Belichick needed receivers and cornerbacks, but his decisions made fans ask questions. The Patriots traded down the draft and sent their 21st overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. Belichick used the 29th overall pick to get Cole Strange. Oh, yes, this wasn’t the most shocking move in the draft. The Patriots selected a quarterback in the fourth round. Bailey Zappe got a draft call from Belichick and it was the best feeling ever. Probably.

The Western Kentucky prospect caught Belichick’s attention and now he joins a pretty packed group of quarterbacks. Getting Zappe makes sense because his skills are insane. He is 23 and his college numbers will definitely blow up your mind.

Belichick called the young quarterback to give him the good news. Zappe was with his family when Belichick called and now we have a video of the whole thing. Yes, he broke in tears!

Bailey Zappe got his draft call, does it affect Mac Jones’ spot?

The Patriots shocked pretty much every prospect in this year’s draft. They got players who didn’t even think they got join Belichick’s team. Strange is the perfect example of this!

Why did Belichick select a quarterback? He used the 15th overall last season to get Mac Jones. The first-rounder led the Patriots to a seven-game winning streak. Many thought that Jones was the right person to replace Tom Brady. Belichick found his quarterback of the future, but Zappe’s selection is pretty mind-blowing.

Jones beat Cam Newton in the quarterback competition last summer. He got the starting job and he will probably start games with the Patriots this season. What makes Zappe a good option for the team? Will he step in as a replacement for Brian Hoyer? The veteran got a new deal with the Patriots and he will spend the season mentoring Jones. However, Hoyer will have to retire at some point. Jarrett Stidham is still here, but his future with the Patriots is hanging in the air.
